Our history

Borehamwood Brass was founded in 1971, when pupils from the former Holmshill School Brass Band approached Eddie Rice. The boys found themselves with no musical outlet on leaving school, and Eddie worked with them to create a band for Borehamwood.

Initially it was known as the Borehamwood Brass Consort, and the group played at local fetes and garden parties, raising funds for good causes as well as for the band's own development. Like its predecessor the school band, the group was conducted by David Aubrey.

Numbers gradually increased, and the group was re-named Borehamwood Brass Ensemble.

The Band grew and entered a successful period of contesting as Borehamwood Brass, with our current conductor, Derek Holland who has been associated with the band for a long time. We have quite a collection of trophies.

However, contesting is hard work, and now are in a more relaxed phase, preferring to concentrate on making music for our local community and charities.

We are looking forward to our 50th Anniversary in 2021, which may well coincide with the opening of the new bandstand in Borehamwood’s Meadow Park.
