Carolling in Tesco for the NSPCC

18 December 2023

Every year, in the week before Christmas, we head over to Tesco to entertain the shoppers with Christmas music and carols. It's one of the most enjoyable events of the year, and we are always amazed at the generosity of Borehamwood people and the amount they give for the NSPCC Christmas collection.

Borehamwood Brass 10th Christmas Concert at St Mark's Church, Barnet Vale

15 December 2023

This was our tenth Christmas Concert at St Mark's Church, and it was probably our best ever! The church was full and we had a number of friends and guest players with the band which made a great start to the Christmas period. We'd like to thank Amy for playing her solo "In the Bleak Midwinter" which really showed off the beautiful tone of the tenor horn, and Paul for playing "Prelude no.1 by Villa Lobos" which sounded very special and made a nice contrast to the band. We had a number of friends in the band: John, Callum, Julia, Isaac, Becky, Milly, Connor, Rhodri, James, Chris and Josh. Thank you everyone and Merry Christmas.

Borehamwood Brass Summer Concert and Flower Festival

16 June 2023

Part of the Town's summer festival, we performed our annual summer concert in All Saints' Church.

We were honoured to be joined by new elected members of the Town Council and a full audience.

Our principal cornet, Andrew Grady's solo piece, My Song is Love Unknown, was a highlight of the concert.

Thank you to Clive Butchins for providing his excellent photos and allowing us to publish them.

Our 50th Anniversary Concert at All Saints Church

17 June 2022

This concert marks 50 years of Borehamwood brass, plus one year, as we were formed in 1971, but the anniversary happened one year late, because of the Covid pandemic! We had a fine band on the night, supported by friends from neighbouring brass bands.  It was also part of the Civic Festival, with gorgeous floral displays all around the church.

There was a special moment in the concert, when our Mayor, Councillor Sandra Parnell, presented a certificate to Alan Gibbins to thank him for his long service with the band.

And since this is also the year of the Platinum Jubilee, our second half included music from the Royal Fireworks, Fantasia on British sea Songs and Pomp and Circumstance March 1. These gave the evening a very jolly "Last night of the Proms" atmosphere, and the audience seemed to have a good time.

We would like to say a huge thank you to Jordan, Chris, Isla, Lynda, Aidan, Amy, Ray, Stephen and Aidan. It was great to have you there with us!

And thank you to Borehamwood and Eltree Town Council for helping to make this a night to remember.

Christmas carolling at Tesco Borehamwood

24 December 2021

The band were outside Tescos this year, which was different, but our carolling raised around £1,000 for the NSPCC. It was good to see our friends from the NSPCC who braved the weather to raise so much money.

Back with a fanfare for the NSPCC

Here are some of us at the NSPCC craft fair in the Allum Manor, one of our first appearances since the long year of social distancing.

Our Summer Concert in the new Meadow Park Entertainment Area

1 August 2021

Our  first concert for over twelve months, in the new entertainment area in Meadow Park on Sunday 1st August. Derek Holland presented the afternoon's entertainment in his usual effervescent style, and the programme included Bandology, Calling all Workers and Breezing Down Broadway, concluding with a foot tapping arrangement of New York, New York. It’s effectively in our 50th anniversary year and the concert was well received by the audience who braved the weather to listen.

Our Lockdown Christmas 2020

24 December 2020

Christmas was very different for our band this year. We hoped to organise a few small, socially-distanced small carolling events, but in the end, almost everything had to be cancelled.

Some of our players did however play the carols for the Christmas Eve Service at All Saints' Church in Borehamwood. It was socially-distanced, and recorded before the event so that the service could be broadcast online on the day.

Lockdown Christmas Display

14 December 2020

With the normal Christmas events cancelled, the town arranged for some virtual events to take place in Borehamwood. Here's an image that we provided for the the Estree and Borehamwood Town Council Christmas display.
